Spier has a recorded history dating to 1692 and is now owned and managed by the Enthoven family that bought the property in 1993. Famed for a diversity of activities, it is home to amongst others one of the largest collections of contemporary South African art and the Spier Hotel. Heading up the winemaking is Frans Smit, who joined Spier in 1996 and lends his name to one of the handful of ranges produced at the Stellenbosch enterprise. There's also MCC sparkling wine and wines exclusively available from the estate.

Village-style buildings, lush green lawns and spacious rooms situated next to the calming Eerste River are the defining characteristics of the 4 star Spier Hotel. Our 153 rooms are clustered around six courtyards, with each courtyard boasting its own swimming pool. The design is reminiscent of the Bo-Kaap or Mediterranean villages where pedestrians have right of way. Natural and organic ingredients are preferred and combined to create nourishing, healthy, and delicious food, which diners can enjoy in a beautiful setting next to the Eerste River. Picnics at The Spier Farm Kitchen The Spier Farm Kitchen offers everything visitors need to make their own tasty farm picnics – as well as a delicious array of locally sourced and made produce to take home. Collect your pre-booked basket here, or help yourself to nutritious, farm-inspired food and linger on the stoep overlooking the Werf with a glass of wine. Spier Hotel Restaurant & Wine Bar The Spier Hotel Wine Bar is a great space to unwind and chat over delicious snacks and wine or beer. Next door, the Restaurant offers a la carte lunch and dinner as well as Spier’s famous buffet breakfast. Chef Amari imaginatively crafts delicious dishes, from burgers and game to fine dining and traditional regional specialities. She sources fresh seasonal produce daily from local producers. Herbs from our gardens, Spier free-range eggs, SASSI green-listed seafood and organic, as far as is humanly possible. Vadas Smokehouse & Bakery Overlooking the rolling lawns and ancient oaks on the Werf, Vadas features a delicious range of pasture-reared meats smoked low and slow. The restaurant is self-service. Guests order from the bar, and the food is brought to the table soon after. Sharing is encouraged, with family-style platters that can be ordered for the table. The bakery produces slow-fermented, fresh sourdough breads as well as a selection of seasonal fruit pies and pastries baked daily.
