Shannon Vineyards is owned by James and Stuart Downes, sons of local fruit farmer Keith who acquired the Elgin Valley property in the late 1990s. Its name is a nod to the family's Irish ancestry. The vineyards, located on hillside sites above the banks of the Peninsula Dam, comprise just over a dozen hectares and share the land with fruit orchards. The dominant varieties are Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc. Shannon's wines are made in the Heme-en-Aarde Valley by Gordon and Nadia Newton-Johnson.
