Rust en Vrede was established in 1694. Through centuries there were periods when wine was produced, but since the seventies, the Engelbrecht family has specialized in producing only red wine with the focus on three varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Merlot. Its numerous milestones include being chosen by late President Nelson Mandela to be served at the Nobel Peace Prize dinner. The company and 55ha estate are headed by Jean Engelbrecht. It produces 20 000 cases of wine per year of which 50% is exported to more than 30 countries around the world.

Tables set under ancient oaks suggest a laid-back approach, yet the linen is classily crisp and white, the cookery flawless and the service impeccable. Enjoy your choice of meal with a glass of red or white. Rust en Vrede Restaurant (Dinner Only) - Contemporary fine dining within Rust en Vrede Wine Estate’s historic former cellar (also a national monument), where the front-and-centre kitchen, fine stemware and bespoke crockery enhance creative four- and six-course menus. A comprehensive winelist carries wide local and international selections, leaving little to be desired.
