Rietvallei counts among South Africa’s oldest family-owned wine estates and was one of the first wine farms of the Robertson Wine Valley. The farm was bought in 1864 by Alewyn Burger for his son Jacobus Francois. It was Koos Burger who, at the age of 70, planted a Muscadel vineyard on the farm in 1908, today the oldest of its kind in the country. Kobus Burger is the sixth generation on the property and is the current CEO and winemaker. Rietvallei is 215ha in size and is in the process of expanding its vineyards to cover 150ha.
