Swartland Wine & Olive Route

Restaurant

About a century ago the Van Zyl family that would later be the co-founders of Piekenierskloof Wines settled on the Piekenierskloof Plateau. One of their sons who was studying viticulture at the time suggested planting Grenache and the area today is one of the centres of the variety. It is also famous for dry land, unirrigated, ungrafted, old bush vines on original rootstock planted in the 1950's. Situated 750m above sea level, the vineyards thrive in hot days and cool nights. Its visitor centre is located on the N7 highway Piekenierskloof Pass, at Hebron Farm.
