Swartland Wine & Olive Route
The Nieuwedrift farm, just south of Piketberg, has been in the Mostert family for seven generations. Grapes were first planted in 1956, but production stepped up with replanting in 1996. The winery followed in 2001, set up by winemaker Johan Mostert who took over from his father, Hendrik. Today, 15ha of vineyards - a small part of the wheat and sheep farming enterprise - produce grapes for an MCC sparkling wine, Shiraz, Blanc de Noir and Chenin Blanc, and supply a local co-operative. Adjoining this production facility is a country-style wedding venue and popular family-friendly restaurant that's also stocked with its wines.
