Calais was granted in 1692 to French Huguenot Jean Manjie who named it after his hometown in northern France. Under the ownership of shareholders, the farm expanded in 2006, with the re-acquisition of land it formerly owned and which housed the Kleinvallei winery. Today, the estate has 23ha under vineyard, with a combination of red and white varieties, and focuses on the production of Bordeaux style wines. Self-catering accommodation was added in 2010 and the facilities are also available for functions.
