The pioneering, family-run wine estate lies in the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Midlands. Abingdon was the first farm to produce a certified estate wine from KZN grapes with their maiden vintage in 2007. The farm was bought in 2000 by owners, Ian and Jane Smorthwaite, and the first vines were planted in 2004. Abingdon has 3ha under vine and produces certified single vineyard Estate wines from 100% KZN grapes. Father-and-daughter Ian and Laurie attend to the viticulture and winemaking. The farm is a popular destination for its wines as much as its tapas-style harvest boards served over weekends.
