The lesser-explored Breedekloof, a valley of slow-ripening vines, is home to farming families with a long tradition, some reaching back over three centuries. How much fun can you have on a wine route? Well, besides the expected offering of quality wines and hearty country food, we also throw in majestic mountains, vineyards and sparkling rivers, offering healthy outdoor fun for mountain bikers, hikers, birders and fly-fishermen.
Not to mention our hot springs, stunning fynbos and warm, hospitable people who are passionate about winemaking and the Breedekloof Valley. We are just an hour from Cape Town, along the N1, but with all we have to offer it’s not surprising that many visitors turn their day trips into overnight stays.
Accommodation ranges from picturesque camping and caravan sites, to self-catering chalets, B&Bs and luxurious guesthouses. Most are situated among vineyards, on the banks of the Breede River or surrounded by fynbos in the mountains.
The Breedekloof Wine Valley is one of South Africa’s most picturesque, and dramatically beautiful, wine regions. The diverse terroir – from mountain slopes, to the banks of the Breede River – allow for many different types of cultivars to be planted, resulting in a wide range of award-winning wines produced by our 18 wineries.
Breedekloof Wine Route comprises 22 wineries in the Rawsonville, Slanghoek, Goudini and Breede River areas, ranging from small boutique cellars to estates.
Superb bistros and restaurants in the Breedekloof Valley offer a variety of dishes for the visitor to area, mostly on the wine farms themselves. Try the Bergsig Bistro, the Bistro at Jasons, the impressive new Bosjes development, the Opstal Restaurant or Slanghoek Mountain Resort Restaurant & Deli.

Numerous leisure activities and excursions are available in the Breedekloof Valley, and there is an activity or attraction to suit everyone's tastes.
