Swartland Seaside Party

The Swartland Wine & Olive Route are taking their annual first weekend of November event to the west coast town of Saldanha Bay – to celebrate at the very edge of the appellation. On Friday 3 November, for the Second Sermon of The Swartland Gospel (Adi Badenhorst’s latest venture) is bringing the American West Coast to the Weskus. International guest winemaker Tegan Passalacqua will be presenting eight of his Sandlands wines from Lodi – “the Swartland of the Napa Valley”.

These wines have serious history and heritage; amongst them old vine Chenin Blancs from 100 year+ old vines and wines from the oldest Cinsault vineyard in the world! Also on the panel will be Andrea Mullineux (a Californian making award winning wines in South Africa); Graham Weerts (a South African making world class wines in California) and Adi Badenhorst, moderately moderating.

The tasting will be followed by sherry and very fresh, very local oysters and a dinner prepared by Charl Badenhorst and his Kalmoesfontein Catering team. Expect seafood from Saldanha & Velddrif, lamb from Calvinia and grass fed free range beef prime rib from the midlands of KZN – all prepared in the oldest cooking method known to man: on open fires!

On Saturday 4 November the Wine Route’s infamous street party moves to the seaside; same same but different as this year there will also be two slots of the same formal(-ish) tasting, featuring eight wines that showcase The Swartland Evolution and the region’s diverse soil types.

Meanwhile, outside the 28 wineries of the Swartland Wine & Olive Route will pour wine, and locals and legends will hand out street- and seaside food. Expect music and a few surprises.
