Bot River Wine Route

1. Favourite Things Market

Shop for stylish, handmade and homemade festive season gifts at this intimate market featuring 45 hand-selected traders. We recommend that you enjoy a meal at their well-loved farm-to-table restaurant, but remember to reserve a table in advance.

2. Groot Constantia Festive Concert

Relax with classical music under the stars at The Symphony Choir of Cape Town’s annual festive concert. Bring your own chairs and blankets and order a delicious picnic basket  from Simon’s Restaurant.

3. Strandfontein Kersmark

Stop by the popular Christmas market in this quaint coastal town to view more than 80 exhibitors’ goods and enjoy a light lunch in the informal coffee shop. You’ll meet warm-hearted locals and get gifts at bargain prices.

4. Twilight Christmas Market

When it’s Christmas time, this popular family Sunday market opens its doors for almost a week of sunset and evening festivities. Grab something delicious to eat at a food stall, shop for gifts and let the kids have the time of their lives in the entertainment area.

You don’t always need a fancy restaurant to feast on great food in a vibrant festive atmosphere.

5. Spier Light Art Festival

Don’t miss this unique exhibition of artworks, all incorporating light and sound in a creative way. Enjoy wine or dinner on the estate and stay until it’s dark to walk the farm and enjoy the interesting art.

6. Carols by Candlelight – Somerset West

The expansive lawns on this scenic wine farm is the perfect setting to have a delicious picnic, listen to a joyful Christmas message and sing along to festive songs with family and friends.

7. Christmas Carols Singalong

The famous local conductor, Richard Cock, will direct a festival choir and orchestra to lead the crowd of Christmas enthusiasts to singing along to all their favourite songs. Bring gifts or donations along to be distributed to local charities.

The Oude Libertas Amphitheatre in Stellenbosch is once again host to two nights of classic singalong carols.

Stanford Wine Route

8. The Stanford Street Festival

The Main street of Stanford closes to cars for a day, so you can enjoy more than 150 stalls, a wine and beer garden, entertainment (like helicopter flips) and a food area - all on foot and carefree.

Tulbagh Wine Route

9. Witzenville Faire

December doesn’t only signal the start of the festive season but also the fruit season, and this area is known to deliver some of the top fruit produce in the country. Celebrate with the locals and support their food stalls, talent, arts and crafts. There’s a jumping castle for the kids too.

Paarl Wine Route

10. Carols by Candle Light - Laborie

Get into the true Christmas spirit by giving back as this concert is in aid of the non-profit, Hope for Mia Cara, supporting a little girl with a rare cancer. Sing along to traditional carols performed by Stephan Cloete and Helen Burger and bring your own blanket to enjoy food and wine from Taillefert wines.

11. Christmas with the Stars

A repertoire of local music groups and talent will be performing under the Paarl night sky with renowned South African actress, Jill Levenberg, acting as the MC. Enjoy a night under the stars, with a line-up of local stars.

12. Paarl Christmas Market

A one stop solution for your Christmas shopping – visit your favourite shops at the mall and its festive market with unique, handmade goodies. Santa will also pay a visit between 15 – 24 December, so bring the young ones.

13. Carols by Candlelight - Boschenmeer

Enjoy local talent, sing along to your favourite festive songs and make a difference by donating towards House Andrew Murray orphanage.

Durbanville Wine Route

14. Market at the Barn

For a rough and rustic market, take the gravel road outside of Durbanville to find a selection of traders selling their handmade or second-hand goods. The kids will love the farm animals right next door.

15. The Gift Market @ Curro

A fun outing for the whole family with more than 120 exhibitors coming from all over South Africa. Added bonus: they have artisanal eats and great coffee.
